Next year, Germany will host the mission-net European Mission Congress, where it is anticipated that 6,000 people of all ages will come together from around 40 different European nations.
The congress will take place at the Weser-Ems exhibition site in Oldenburg, in northern Germany from the 8th to the 13th of April, 2009. The congress will focus on the theme of ´missions´, and challenge participants to live out a ´missional lifestyle´ wherever they live.
The motivating programme will include Bible-based messages, and reports of current mission trends in local and global mission.
Bishop David Zac Niringiye, based in Kampala,Uganda, will lead the Bible studies during the morning meetings. The evening sessions will be led by guest speakers, including: OM Founder, George Verwer (USA); co-author of Operation World; Jason Mandryk (Canada); Professor of World mission und East European Studies, Dr. Peter Kuzmic (Croatia); Founder of Open Doors Brother Andrew (Netherlands) and East European Director of AMG International and General Secretary of the Greek Evangelical Alliance, Fotis Romeos (Greece).
Worship will be led by the well known Dutch band “World News”. Late night concerts will feature Bill Drake (USA) and Judy Bailey (Germany), with several others still to be confirmed.
Well-known Spanish mime-artist Carlos Martinez will illustrate messages in his own unique way.
Around 80 seminars and workshops have already been confirmed, covering a range of themes including world religions, mission theology, art and mission, politics and mission, and business and mission. Around 150 mission agencies will be represented in the exhibition hall, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the many opportunities for mission involvement.
The Mission Advice Centre (MAC), the congress career counselling service, will enable experienced workers to give practical advice and assess gifting to help identify the best fit for a person in local or global mission.
After the congress, a range of mission agencies will host over 25 short-term teams, with trips taking place immediately after the event and throughout the summer.
More information about the congress is available at the mission-net website: www.mission-net.org. The site is regularly updated with the latest news and information.
Participants should register through the on-line registration facility. The price for the congress is 230 Euros, which includes entrance fees, food, dormitory accommodation and the full programme.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
mission-net – Moving Forward On Every Front
With a confirmed theme, a new website and contact people in 30 countries, mission-net – the April 2009 mission mobilising event – is truly moving forward.
Commissioned by the European Evangelical Missionary Alliance and European Evangelical Alliance, mission-net is a pan-European event seeking to promote a missional lifestyle among young European Christians. Confirmed for April 8th to 13th 2009 at the Weser-Ems-Halle in Oldenburg, Germany, first details of the theme and booking arrangements are being released.
Titled For Heaven’s Sake, the Easter Weekend programme will ask what the Biblical call to mission means in today’s world. Keynote speakers, seminars and small group discussions are designed to further bring alive the theme of mission-net. There will also be opportunity for participants to speak to representatives from Christian organisations and join short-term outreaches following the event.
Up to date programme information and booking details can be found on the newly launched mission-net website – www.mission-net.org . Aimed at the 16-30 age group, onsite catering and accommodation at Weser-Ems-Halle is planned to keep costs below Euro250 per person (excluding transport). The venue will be open for arrivals from 10am on Wednesday 8th of April 2009, with the first meeting scheduled that evening. Proceedings will end the evening of Sunday 13th April and participants have until 10am the following day to depart.
The mission-net network of national mobilisers now extends to over 30 European countries, including Ireland, Albania and Estonia. Representatives for other nations are still needed. Serving as local points of contact for the event, national mobilisers can also supply a range of promotional and publicity material. The European Evangelical Missionary Alliance and European Evangelical Alliance hope that this partnership and organisational structure will pave the way for similar mission-net events every two years.
