Book: Can it be Me? A Inspiring Insight into an Extraordinary Life

by Marjorie Foyle
ISBN: 978-0906747360

A great missionary story! Marjory spent over 30 years as a medical missionary in India and Nepal. She specialised in psychiatry and became the Director of a Christian Psychiatric Centre in India. She is recognised as an expert on stress and how it affects Christians working in cross-cultural situations.

Marjory Foyle’s autobiography entitled “Can it be Me?”  is a fascinating insight into one of Interserve’s distinguished former partners and her remarkable life of Christian service all over the world. Marjory is a globally-renowned expert on Christian mission and the way that it affects mission workers, and this wonderful book will be of great interest to anyone focusing on these issues.

Marjory was a very special person, but also a very normal person, and we can all be encouraged and challenged that the same God who used Marjory can also use us. Can it be you?

Book: A Place Prepared

by Gloria Kearney
ISBN 184030134

Available: Amazon UK or Mission Africa Recommended selling price: £6.99

This book has all the ingredients of a great adventure--an amazing journey across 13,000 miles of inhospitable terrain of Western Africa in a Model T Ford, encounters with evil powers, triumph and defeat, sacrifice and sorrow, suffering and healing, laughter and tears.

It is the story of Tigite, who waited eleven years for the fulfillment of a promise, Stanley and Alice Bennington, who sacrificed much to bring the Gospel to the Lobi people of Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), and Jeremy and Rachel Nash, who have served the Lord with great love and compassion among the Dagari people of Burkina Faso.

A powerful story of how God leads, provides, protects and sustains when people step out in faith and obey His leading.

Book: When Helping Hurts - Alleviating Poverty Without Hurting the Poor... and Yourself

by Brian Fikkert and Steve Corbett
Available through Amazon UK

This is an excellent book which looks at biblical principles for helping the poor, whilst at the same time being very practical. It describes some of the ways that well-meaning people have done more harm than good as they've sought to help the poor.

This book encourages you to look at your own spiritual poverty, and recognise that before the cross we are all nothing. When finding solutions we must do it with people and not for or to people. We must come in humility, knowing we don't have all the answers.

All the attention is focused on the white face under the stage lights and on the perfect movements of a black figure with white gloves. The fullness of life, with its ups and downs, flows from the stage. The mime has to avoid the obstacles of life and triumph over them with poetic agility. There is silence. The actor is speaking in all the languages of the world. Surprisingly, after more than twenty-five years on stage, Carlos Martínez has decided to break his silence and gently transform his world of gestures into letters and words in FROM THE DRESSING ROOM.
